Mindbody alternatives for drop-in classes

From ClassMetrix, check-in and money tracking for drop-in dance and fitness classes · 8 October 2026

The short answer

For drop-in classes where nobody books, the simplest Mindbody alternative is one that doesn't book at all: ClassMetrix records check-ins and payments at the door, runs passes, teacher pay and cash tins, and shows profit per class after hall hire, from AU$29 or US$19 a month. If you still want online booking and payments but less than Mindbody, Punchpass (US$59 to $149) is the usual choice; Gymcatch (£10 a month plus VAT) is the cheapest booking tool here. Momence and TeamUp are fuller suites; Gymdesk and Vagaro are built for gyms and salons.

How to pick

  1. Do your students book? If people reserve places and pay before class, you need a booking tool: Punchpass, Gymcatch, Vagaro, TeamUp, Momence or Mindbody itself. If they turn up and pay at the door, you don't, and the booking tools will charge you for a feature your door never uses.
  2. Do you sell memberships that bill monthly? If yes, Gymdesk, TeamUp, Momence or Mindbody. If you sell passes and single classes, any of the others.
  3. How many venues? Mindbody and Gymdesk price per location. A school in three hired halls should check that line first. ClassMetrix never counts venues.
  4. Do you want to know which classes pay? Most of these report revenue per class. Profit per class night after hall hire and teacher pay is the number ClassMetrix was built around; on the others, ask whether the reporting subtracts those costs or whether you will be doing it in a spreadsheet.
  5. Who runs the door? Volunteers and teachers learn a one-tap door in a minute. A suite takes training.

Where ClassMetrix fits

It is the one tool on this list without bookings, and that is the point. It was built at a Sydney swing-dance school for a door where people pay on the night, couples share passes, teachers are paid per class, and the owner wanted to know which of the eight classes a week actually made money. It takes no payments (you keep your terminal and your tin) and is priced by classes a week: AU$29, $69 or $129 a month, US$19, $49 or $89, free for 30 days with no card. The direct comparison with Mindbody is honest about what it leaves out.

Questions

What is the simplest alternative to Mindbody for drop-in classes?

If nobody books, ClassMetrix: it records who came and how they paid at the door, runs passes and teacher pay, and shows profit per class, from AU$29 or US$19 a month, with no payments and no bookings. If you still want online booking and card payments but less than Mindbody, Punchpass (from US$59) is the usual answer.

What is the cheapest class management software for a small community class?

Among tools that show a price on their site: Gymcatch at £10 a month plus VAT if you want bookings (UK-first), ClassMetrix at AU$29 or US$19 if you don't, Vagaro at US$30 for one calendar. A spreadsheet is free and works for one small class kept by one person.

Why does Mindbody cost more?

It does more: bookings, memberships with contracts, card payments, marketing, website widgets, a consumer app and a marketplace, priced per location (A$89 to A$369 a month in Australia, from US$79 in the US). If your classes need those, it is worth it. If they don't, you are paying for the parts you don't use.
